Dino on the Environment:
Claim: Dino is in denial about global warming. Fact : Dino Rossi has said that we need to move forward with a reasonable plan to reduce carbon emissions and make improvements to our environment. Although many people and scientists have differing opinions regarding the level of human impact on climate change, we are past the time of debate over “if” and we need to address “how” to reduce our carbon emissions. “ Rossi said there's no doubt the planet is warming but people will continue to argue about the cause.” – Seattle PI, May 27, 2008 In Washington state, transportation is the main source of carbon emissions. That is why his recent transportation proposal includes incentives for the purchase of hybrid and electric cars and calls for the entire state government vehicle fleet to be converted to hybrid and electric cars by 2015. It is also a key reason why he will focus on congestion relief. For example, it is estimated that completing the North-South Corridor in Spokane will eliminate 2.4 million pounds of carbon emissions a year. As governor, he will also work to ensure that hydropower is recognized as a renewable energy resource and is included in any plans to address climate change. Protecting the environment is important to Dino. In the state senate he received the Good Green Deeds Award twice from the Washington Conservation Voters, spent six years on the board of the Nature Conservancy and has been a member of the board of Mountains to Sound Greenway for the past ten years.
