Rossi Statement on Election Results |
Redmond, WA – Dino Rossi released the following statement after conceding the Washington state governor’s race to incumbent Governor Christine Gregoire: “This morning I called Christine Gregoire to congratulate her and wish her well as Governor. “From the beginning my mission was to change Olympia. In 2004 we ran 7.5 points ahead of President Bush. So far, we are running 10 points ahead of John McCain. That is an accomplishment in itself. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough. “I am extremely proud of the campaign we have run, and together we accomplished a lot. This campaign was a citizens’ movement with over 55,500 contributors – more than any other race in Washington state history. We brought new people into politics, those who had never been involved before, and got people excited about improving our state. “Our state faces some difficult times ahead and I wish Christine Gregoire the best of luck in seeing Washington state through these challenges. Governor Gregoire made an ironclad promise that in this term in office the citizens will not see any taxes or fees increased. It is fair and right for voters to hold her to this pledge. For the sake of Washington businesses and taxpayers I hope that she does. “I first ran for governor in 2003, not because I wanted a political career, but because I wanted to fix some problems in our state. I was happy before I got into politics and I will be happy after. After a long and grueling year on the campaign trail, I look forward to spending time at home with my family. “Finally, and most importantly, I want to thank our friends, family and supporters. These two campaigns have not been easy on me or the Rossi family. But we have been lifted up by your prayers, your donations and your support.” |
